Happy Calendar Winter Start, Mountain Athletes!

This morning, the calendar winter greeted Munakas slope masters with +5C and a gentle mushroom rain.

Fortunately, this marks the end of the next period of tropical showers. The sky is clearing, and the temperature is slowly beginning to drop.

The slope masters are pleased to report that the slopes have survived this thaw without having to give up their positions, although in some places the snow layer is minimal. The situation is most challenging on the steep part of the park slope, but we are keeping it open so those coming from the upper part of the park can reach the lift. Throughout the day, the ground may thaw in some spots, but the mountain will hold until the next cold spell.

And the next cold spell is not far away! According to the forecast, freezing temperatures will arrive tomorrow (Monday, 22.12) evening at 6:00 PM. If this holds true, the mountain will be closed tomorrow at 6:00 PM, as we can't afford to waste any cold hours.

On Tuesday, 23.12, Munakas will be closed for snowmaking. The wind direction is such that we cannot keep the mountain open and make snow at the same time. Kuutsekas will be open and operate on Tuesday at the usual holiday schedule: 10 AM - 7 PM. Munakas will resume again on Christmas Eve, being open from 11 AM to 4 PM. Christmas at both Munakas and Kuutsekas would have been white anyway, but now they will be absolutely snowy white. It seems that winter and snowmaking weather will continue for a couple of weeks, meaning all slopes will soon be open.
